Big Grass Guy ("the app," "we," "us") is a lawn-care app published by Power of Grass. We built it to be private by default: the app has no user accounts, shows no ads, and does not track you. Most of your information stays on your device. This policy explains the few cases where data leaves your device, and why.
Information we handle
- Lawn photos (only when you run an AI diagnosis). When you choose to scan a photo, that image is sent to our diagnostics service and to the AI providers that generate the result — Anthropic, and Plant.id (Kindwise), a plant and weed identification service that identifies the plants in your photo. The photo is used only to produce your diagnosis, is not stored by us afterward, is not linked to your identity, and is not used to train AI models. If you never use the AI scan feature, no photos ever leave your device.
- Location. If you grant location access (or set a region for a lawn), we use your location or region to fetch a local weather forecast (via Open-Meteo) and to provide regional context for an AI diagnosis. We do not store your location on our servers or use it to track you.
- Lawn-care data you enter — journal entries, soil tests, schedules, and watering logs, including any photos you attach to entries — is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to us.
- AI scan results — when you run a lawn scan, a short summary of the general problem categories it found (for example “broadleaf weeds”) is saved only on your device to power eco-friendly follow-up tips on your home screen. The photo is not saved for this, and you can clear this history any time in the app’s Settings.
- Subscriptions. If you subscribe to Big Grass Guy Pro, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details; we only learn from Apple whether your subscription is active.
How we use information
We use the information above only to provide the features you ask for — diagnosing a photo, showing your local weather, and unlocking Pro. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Service providers
We share data only to the extent needed to run these features:
- Anthropic — processes the photo you submit to generate the AI diagnosis.
- Plant.id (Kindwise) — analyzes the photo you submit to identify the grass, weeds, and plants in it, improving diagnosis accuracy.
- Apple — processes any subscription purchase through the App Store.
- Open-Meteo — provides the local weather forecast.
These providers process the data on our behalf to deliver the feature and under their own terms.
Data retention
Photos submitted for diagnosis are processed in transit to produce your result and are not retained on our servers afterward. On-device data remains until you delete the relevant entries, lawn, or the app itself.
Your choices
- You control camera, photo-library, and location permissions in iOS Settings, and can change them at any time.
- You can delete any lawn, journal entry, soil test, or log within the app, and deleting the app removes all on-device data.
- You can clear your saved AI scan history in the app under Settings → Scan history.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID account settings.
Children
Big Grass Guy is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
